Simon is not only a great coach but also a mentor. As a fellow spin bowler he massively helped me with technical points but also with match tactics such as field settings and strategies for bowling at different batsmen. He gave me the opportunity to bowl long spells which put me in good stead for club and county cricket. Almost as soon as he was appointed first-team captain at Southport and Birkdale Simon Sutcliffe’s effect on the players at the club was positive. Net sessions were better organised and far more purposeful. Every cricketer, regardless of ability, was encouraged and every piece of advice was tailored to the player’s strengths. Two years after becoming skipper Simon led the team he captained to their first league title for 17 years but the impact he made on the whole club was even more significant and more permanent.

Simon Sutcliffe offers excellent cricket coaching for children of all ages and abilities, in a disciplined environment. He is highly experienced, and ensures players are challenged at the appropriate level, offering excellent technical input without overly burdening them with too much information. Once players have the basics, he will work on their individual skills and offer advice on improvement of their technique, as well as attitude. My son (Sandy) has certainly benefited from Simon’s coaching, and improved hugely in the time he has been there.
