ABOUT ME

I have played cricket for as long as I can remember. My grandfather and father both played league cricket in Yorkshire and Lancashire, and my father played for Yorkshire II. When I was growing up my father was captain of Southport and Birkdale Cricket Club and then became the first Director of Coaching for the NCA, working from Lord's. I had little choice other than to play cricket! When the NCA coaching office moved to Manchester the family returned to Merseyside and I played junior cricket at Formby, making my 1st XI debut as a 16 year old.

I attended Oxford University where I played two full seasons of First Class cricket, during which time I was also signed to play for Warwickshire. After Oxford I went to Loughborough to qualify as a teacher, and also captained the university team. Having played for Warwickshire for a couple of years after leaving university I then went into teaching. For the next 15 years or so I combined playing club cricket with coaching at school. I played in the Birmingham League, the Midlands Championship, the Cumbria League and the North Yorkshire and South Durham League before returning again to Merseyside. I then played for Southport & Birkdale in the Liverpool Competition, captaining their team to be champions in 1996. I retired from playing in 1998. For the past 15 years I have coached the 1st XI and run all the cricket at Merchant Taylors' School.

Having now retired from academic teaching I am excited to be setting up my own cricket coaching enterprise. I look forward to furthering my connections with all those who I have already coached and helped, and to forging new relationships with schools, clubs, and individual players, both the youngest players starting out on their cricketing journeys, and those with more experience.
